What's Happening in West Tennessee

As we have done in the past we are preparing to help our fellow ministries in the affected gulf coast area with food support. Our sister organization, Angel Food America began collecting need requests over the weekend -- many host sites are already helping the evacuees. In addition, we are partnering with the Salvation Army to help supply their Canteens that are feeding first responders and community members throughout the region. By joining the first responders in this way, we will open the door for long term and greater presence of host sites and Angel Food Ministries in the affected area -- we believe that we can be an important part of long term recovery in the affected communities. We will be working together (Angel Food Ministries and Angel Food America) to make a difference and open doors for the gospel. You can expect a description of the need for food within the next couple of days, as soon as impact details become more clear. In the meantime you can help by doing the following:

Review the needs that have been posted by going to angelfoodcommunity.org and selecting the Gustav link. On the Need Help tab you can see notes from host sites who are already needing our support. You may have the practical ability to assist even now.

Please post a link from your church website to this site as well, so that we can help boost the ability of Angel Food America to collect public donations and multiply the efforts of our host sites.

Please point any affected host sites that you are in contact with to the site, so that we can post their needs -- if you are in contact with them by phone, feel free to post their needs yourself.

As always, we will work together to help our brothers and sisters during a time of real hardship. We know that their endurance and God's grace will make important things happen for the Gospel.

We are now in the middle of hurricane season and then go into tornado season. Both can also bring flooding. Consider planning for your local fundraising at this time. As an organization, we will want to assist those who are affected. Whatever approach you have used in the past for responding to disasters would be appropriate to begin now. Planning in all aspects will let you be prepared to assist. Remember to sign up to be a Community Access Site to be involved!

GulfSouth Minister of Outreach Stephen Nations:
60+ evacuees have arrived in Brandon, MS. The Community Access Site, operating out of NewDay Community Church will host these evacuees in their 60,000 sq.ft. facilities. Families are arriving with virtually nothing; bedding and supplies needed. To provide any support call Stephen at 601.502.6202

Senior Box!

Angel Food Ministries has been given a tremendous opportunity to provide, in addition to our Regular Box, a Senior Box that is nutritious and economical. In our continuing efforts to provide the best food to the hundreds of thousands of people we reach out to each month, we opted to offer this huge benefit to our senior community, but you don't have to be a senior citizen to order it. Already many singles and working families are purchasing this box for daily work lunches or quick suppers. Even fast food is more than $2.50 per meal! Some communities are utilizing them for their version of Meals on Wheels. Nutritional information will be available soon.

These are top quality meals that will provide senior citizens the nutrition they need with the great quality they have come to expect from Angel Food Ministries. This Senior Box is now going to be added to our monthly menu, and it will be treated just like a Regular Box. You will be able to order the Senior Box and still have access to our FIVE Specials, which will be an added benefit to our senior citizens. The ability to order this menu online with debit or credit card will be available to those who are already in states where online ordering is available. Tennessee is one of those states.

In addition to the Regular and Senior Boxes, in September we are offering a 5 for 4 special. This includes five (2 pound) entrees that will feed four people for $4 per meal ($1 per person per meal!). These include Stuffed Green Peppers with Beef and Rice, Chicken Breasts with Rice, Broccoli and Cheese, Beef Steak Patties with Gravy and Onions, Meatloaf and Gravy, and BBQ Chicken with Hickory Sauce and Mashed Potatoes. Just heat and serve! We also have a 10 pound box of Unbreaded Individually Quick Frozen Party-Style Chicken Wings, 6 lb. grill box, 5 lb. Steak and Meat Combo, and a Fresh Fruit and Veggie Box, all at very reasonable prices.

We are making every effort to provide the best menu and the best service to our host sites. We are working as fast as we can to adjust to this opportunity that has been handed to us, and we know that this will be a blessing to many for a long time to come.
